Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySERGEANT WILLIAM LORNE CANN (BILL) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. After a courageous battle with cancer and with his family at his side, Bill passed away at the Grace Hospital on April 20, 2010. Dad is survived by his loving wife Margaret, of 52 years, their children Dwight (Roberta), Dwayne (Marianne), Dennis (Kathy), Coreena, Shadow and Jade, brother Harold (Stacey) his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. Bill was born in Shoal Lake MB, September 5, 1940. He joined the army in 1958 highlighted by a United Nations Peacekeeping tour in the Middle East. The army and its' many postings took his family all over Europe and Canada and eventually back to Winnipeg. During these various stops, he always became involved in local youth sports programs tirelessly giving his time in coaching, managing and whatever was needed to keep the kids playing sports and having fun. Everyone will also remember dad for his forever tinkering with mechanics, ceramics (Cann's Crafts), woodworking and always being there to lend a hand with anything needing fixing. Dad, along with the love of his life Margaret, was very devoted to raising their two grandsons. Volunteering at A.W.R.A. and being a hockey dad once again, led to many new and cherished friendships. The family wishes to thank all the family and friends for their love and support, and to the very caring medical staff at the Grace Hospital. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, April 26 at 11:00 a.m. at the Army and Navy Legion located at 3584 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a trust fund set up for Shadow and Jade by contacting a family member.
